[CVALE] Installer for Linux

Thanks Ian. I never thought this question would generate so much
discussion. :]

Autopackage looks very interesting, and I will have to investigate it
some more. I am running Debian, so I us Apt via Synaptic, which gives me
a nice GUI!

I hope to learn more about packaging software on Debian, at which point
I may think some more about how I could build a graphical installer
framework that worked with the packaging system. (Sounds like I might
have found my Linux C Programming project.)

I know we're vering off topic here, but I'll say that the one thing
I've come to love the most about OSX is the desktop menubar.  You
*always* know where the menu is for the app you're working on.  You
don't have to worry too much about aiming for a menu option in the
middle of the screen, it's *always* at the top of the screen.

Other than that, I like the fact that because of the *nix base (BSD
actually), I can have all the OSS apps I want under OSX.  Thunderbird,
Firefox, Adium, Desktop Manager, Quicksilver... etc, etc.

If you're using a RPM-based distro, you might try looking into Yum or
Apt-RPM.  Both are supposed to be good at resolving dependency issues.
 Yum does okay, but is horribly slow.  Apt-RPM I have no experience
with, but I've used Apt on Debian.  YMMV, of course.
