[CVALE] Connecting to T1

A T1 is not an ethernet connection and requires special hardware. Generally one connects a router which has a t1 card to the t1 and then there would be an ethernet adaptor on the local side of the router. I'm guessing this is the case and you should talk with your network folks to get an ethernet connection.
If you are truely connecting a t1 directly to your system, you can find t1 cards that come with linux drivers. A year or so ago, linux magazine (i think) had an article about a company who homebrewed whitebox systems with linux and both t1 and t3 cards to act as routers.
T1 cards aren't cheap and I would expect to spend several hundred dollars on one. Check ebay for "t1 cisco" or "t1 pci" and you will see. Ignore the $15 digium asterisk or other "voip" cards as those are for voice not data. - Good Luck

Im finally ready to take the plunge
I want to connect my Debian box at work to the internet. We have a T1 connection. I did some searching on Google for about 20 minutes, but I only found articles that talk about setting up Linux with slower connections.
Im not even sure where to start with this. Perhaps you guys can help me with a couple of newbie questions:
[1] What type of hardware do I need to connect to the T1 connection, and how do I find out if it is installed? (Besides pulling off the computer case
) :]
[2] What software do I need to have installed/configured to make the connection?
I have installed ClamAV and Firestarter. I plan on getting Firestarter configured as soon as I get my connection figured out.
Thanks,
Landon
