[CVALE] SuSE and updating

I wanted to follow-up with some questions I had posted, in case anyone was
interested in what the resolution was. I was having problems with the
update tool on SuSE 10.1, since they changed from YOU (Yast Online Update)
to novell zen-works updater.

The general problem was that zen-update(in the initial distribution) sucked
(a technical term). I couldn't get it to work, and thought my system was a
pretty basic installation. It would connect to any of the repositories I
set up, wouldn't configure, and often just aborted without anything that
resembled an eror message. I figured I must have done something wrong, but
couldn't get even a hint as to what that was. I dropped SL10.1 and tried
out FC5 for awhile. However, I found the solution while looking for other
answers.

Apparently many 10.1 users were having the same problem. SuSE sent out a
message apologizing for releasing a package with lower quality than
customers typically expected. A fix existed, but they were recommending I
use zen-update to acquire it. The state of my system was such that I'd
never be able to complete the download. So, I just did a manual download
(via ftp) from one of the SuSE mirrors, and installed the new rpm.
Configurations and connections went great. Online updating is a breeze, just
like it used to be.
