I've been pondering the increasing lack of participation in meetings and
installfests for quite some time. The best I can come up with is the
relative ease in which Linux can be installed these days, as well as an
explosion of online resources in the form of blogs, forums, and howtos.
It used to take a relatively Linux savvy person to configure a ppp
dialer, get X to not destroy your monitor, and spend the 8 hours
compiling the latest CVS version of GNOME from source. That's just not
the case anymore, for better or for worse (mostly better I think).
At this point IMHO, without the influx of Linux n00bs that we once had,
CVALE exists mostly as a social club. That's not necessarily a bad
thing, as I've enjoyed the time at the installfests helping people and
chatting with Eric, Pete, Dan, Terry, etc. But, it's hard to maintain a
group and get people motivated with such a small attendance.

Yes, thank you Nick, and everyone who has contributed to CVALE in one
way or another.

I have no other engagements on any Saturday of the month. We can
discuss the future/format of the Saturday meeting/installfests at the
January meeting. Please note that there is no December meeting.

Happy Holidays, and a Merry Christmas everyone!
