Thanks Robert. Turns out that has been my experience as well. It looks
like Debian Etch is going to meet my needs at this point.

Here's what I think about ubuntu:

I think it's pretty good. But honestly not good enough. Reasons being
that the multimedia support is abysmal, some of the packaging decisions
are just plain STUPID (look at what they did with CUPS) and lastly it's
not exactly debian compatible.

just so you know though, I am a bit of a arch linux fanboy. but I keep
it at a minimum. But the reason I bring it up is because it seems to
have one thing you're looking for. constantly updated packages. the arch
repositories are updated constantly so you get the latest and greatest
packages pretty much the day they're released. It's also got a great
package manager.

But anyway, On ubuntu, most of my friends that use debian and then try
ubuntu end up pretty dissatisfied. But you never know.

I'm getting to like my Debian distro, and I am happy this group
recommended it to me so many month's ago. However, I was looking at
Ubuntu today, and it looked appealing. It seems it might be a little
more up-to-date with the software packages, as I saw it running Open
Office 2.0. One of my frustrations with Debian has been the wait for
recent versions of popular software. I also found out today that Ubuntu
is offering commercial support. I was thinking about what type of Linux
Desktop I might use in a small business. I wanted something based on
Debian, since that is the Linux distro that I have been learning.
However, I wasn't to impressed with Linspire or Xandros. I think Ubuntu
might be what I'm looking for.

Is anyone currently running Ubuntu?

What do you think of it?

How does it compare to Debian? I

Is it based of a Debian version? If so, which one?

Does Ubuntu use a separate package repository?

Thanks for the info.
