FYI for those not at the Installfest:
I was upgrading my laptop from FC4 to FC5 (using the normal upgrade
method, not the Yum method Kristian is referring to). About 90% of the
way through, I turned back to my laptop and it was off. I checked the
power, and it was still plugged in... silly thing has the 6 intake vents
on the bottom and it was halfway between two slightly uneven tables.
It did end up booting up to the FC5 kernel when we powered it back up at
Fire2Wire, but most of the old FC4 RPMs were still installed, along with
much of the new FC5 RPMs. X wouldn't load, but Yum was working.
When I got home, I messed with Yum update for a bit. I removed all the
FC4 RPMs (since they caused RPM conflicts), used yum groupremove X-stuff
and yum groupinstall X-stuff (X, Gnome, KDE, whatever). Still no dice
with X and who knows how hosed things really were.
I went to bed and then today figured I might as well just scrap the
install and go back to my backup. I ran a fresh FC5 install (format and
use linux partitions option) and untarred my user directory from backup
and everything is happy again (so far, I haven't tested much yet).
I think things would have went pretty smooth, but I think I might still
have had problems with old kernels causing some conflicts (I'm too lazy
to remove old ones).
However, I had upgraded an FC3 and two FC4 systems to FC5 before this
with no problems.
