[CVALE] Samba and XP

Well, here I am again beating my head against the wall. Hope someone
here can give me a clue....
Trying to get my XP boxes to talk to my Linux server. This is just a
"workgroup" arrangement, so I've tried both "user" and "share" security
types in Samba. I must be close, as I can login to my Linux home
directory (using "user" security) just fine.
However, XP says my other Linux shares are "not accessible", no matter
what combo of user/passwords I try. (The shared directories have root
as owner, but are marked accessible to the user's group; the user can
see them fine locally on Linux.)
I've googled like crazy without a resolution; I think this used to work,
so I'm suspecting the XP side. <g> Don't have firewalls (that I know
of); iptables is off on the Linux side, and I'm doing DHCP thru a
router for the whole network.
Any pointers would be appreciated....
