[CVALE] Problem with Ubuntu Installation

Landon, Dennis....
It's been over a year since I've installed an ubuntu box, but I remember
having trouble with firing up the nic also. I'm a commandline-only guy
for the most part these days, and my primary experience is with debian
proper, which is to say that I just sort of "expect" everything to work
in ubuntu just like it does in debian... so what I remember experiencing
was from that perspective. I recall that despite a
/etc/network/interfaces file being present, it seemed to be ignored
(this caused me no end of frustration). I never had the patience to find
out if it was an ubuntu bug or just something that didn't work the way I
was expecting it should. In the end, I think I just manually
/sbin/ifconfig up'd the card with the settings I wanted and was done
with it. Landon, I would suggest, as a troubleshooting step, that you
try manually configuring the nic with ifconfig and see if the problem
goes away. The info Dennis asked for is also pretty essential.
