It would be worth considering some books on agile development. The one

Agile development is a very modern style of development often used on
small, flexible teams for things that go far beyond just open source
work, and include a lot of changing requirements or other complex
project risks.

Having just been battle-hardened by finishing a horrid putrid
traditional project run using the waterfall methodology of old, all I
can say is, avoid it like the plague. It's completely unworkable.
