Landon,
Not to say your wrong but are you sure your not capturing thru 1394 (Firewire). The cables look similar, most newer computers and laptops have this standard an MS offers several programs for this.
Now if you are mistaken, do a search for 1394 and Linux and you will find options. Still none as good or rather complete as say Premiere but will get the job done.
Also if you are looking for a USB solution you may find it more beneficial to go the firewire route. It's widley supported and offers several solutions both low and mid level. High level uncompressed SD or HD will come on SDI only and at a steep price (this is our area, although for years I worked in production at the mid level or prosumer level)
