[CVALE] Setting up a PDF/Postscript printer on Linux.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial that shows how to set up a PDF and/or
Postscript printer on Linux? On MS Windows I've got this little freeware
program that allows me to select a PDF printer from just about any
application that supports printing. Is there a way to do a similar thing
on Linux?

 

I'm running Debian, so if there is a Debian specific tutorial that would
be awesome. But I'll take what I can get. (I'm embarrassed to say that
I've never even tried to print from Linux using a regular printer, so
this is new territory for me.)
