     There might be a line or two in the init scripts somewhere.
grepping for "speakup" should find hem, but they'll only be echos to the
proc filesystem, setting voice, volume, talking speed, etc.

     Yep.  I even tried using 'chsh', and making .bashrc an
non/executable.  It even says 'bash: sl: command not found', so I know 
she's running.  It even creates a .bash_history file.
