On a more serious note, I had a Win95 problem with my USRobotics
modem back in '98 or so. Occasionally it would connect at 33.6K, and I
wanted it to always connect at 56K. So I opened up a term prg and
tweaked the settings in MVRAM, instructing the modem to refuse any
connection lower than 56K. Problem solved, I thought. About two
connections later it connected at 33.6K again. My modem settings were
the same, so I went and edited the .inf file to reflect the same config,
removed the modem and let it reinstall after rebooting. Pointing
Windows at the new .inf file didn't help either. The simple fact is
that Windows is gonna do what it wants, regardless of what you do. The
programmers at Microsoft want it that way. I dunno if it applies to
your situation, but I *do* know that once something starts happening in
Windows, it will repeat itself sooner, rather than later. The only way
I know to change that is a scratch re-install. Unfortunately, Microsoft
in it's "wisdom" decided not to even reformat the drive. I re-installed
WinXP a couple weeks back and all my old document directories are still
there, files intact. If that's the case, then any virii or bugs that
were there are still there. Bugrit! If I were concerned enough with
what happens to Windows, I'd probably cfdisk the fool thing from Linux.
  I'm not. <chuckles>
