[CVALE] My next big step with Linux...

Rob,
Patrick suggested the Buffalo WHR-G54S router which I can get for about
45 bucks. Is that what you meant when you said " As for sharing the DSL
connection, I'd just go get a cheap DSL router from Best Buy - maybe
30-40 bucks." ?
Would the DSL router require "network cards" on both computers? Could
the connection provided by the DSL router also be used for file sharing
and the printer, or is it just for the internet?
Landon

You'd probably have trouble finding 64-bit Windows drivers for all your
on-board devices and peripherals.

Correct, you should be able to use Samba to share files between your
Linux and Windows boxes. Theoretically you should be able to share the
printer with Samba, as well, but I've never personally set that up.
The official Samba reference guide is at the URL below, but it's a bit
thick:
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/
This URL looks to be more focused on what you want to do:
http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/wiki/index.php/Quick_HOWTO_:_Ch10_:_W
indows,_Linux,_and_Samba
As for sharing the DSL connection, I'd just go get a cheap DSL router
from Best Buy - maybe 30-40 bucks.
Hope this helps,
rob
