Sure, the Buffalo WHR-G54S would work fine. It's also a wireless router, 
which could be useful if you get a laptop down the line (or if your 
computers are in different rooms)

Yes, but your new AMD box should already have an on-board network 
interface. Considering how new your AMD box is it likely has an on-board 
gigabit network interface (probably realtek or broadcom - both of which 
have decent driver support on non-Windows OS's). You can get the model 
information from the Device Manager control panel in Windows.

Yes, that particular router includes a 4 port switch which you'd connect 
your boxes and printer to (if it's networkable) and an uplink port which 
you'd connect to your DSL modem. The only reason you'd need multiple 
network interfaces on your linux box would be if you were going to 
configure *it* as the firewall/router, but that's really more trouble 
that it's worth.
