Some more info would be helpful. Live CD of what distribution? Fedora,
Ubuntu, etc.?

On my system, I'd manually type this in telling grub these options (this
is actually from my /etc/grub.conf file):

root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
initrd /initrd-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5.img

Of course, your info is going to be unique to your system and
distribution. The Live CD should let you boot back up and you can mount
your drive and see what your /etc/grub.conf file has. Most likely you
just need to edit (hd0,0) or whatever yours has. It may have (hd0,1)
now and you need to change it to (hd0,0) since you've one less partition
on your drive now.
