A sad and tragic story.
Clearly one of those cases where you are best never taking the stand:
"Jurors had to choose between Reiser's strained version of events and the
plain conclusion that he was lying."
However I think in light of everything that's come forth it sounds likely
that justice was served.
As for his file system, it's open source and there are quite a few
developers still working on it. Without him and the money his company was
able to put into it it seems unlikely it will really do anything other than
be put into maintenance and security release only mode. At this point I
don't think even SuSE ships with REISERfs as a default option. It will
likely sit alongside the obsolete filesystems in the kernel modules as a
historical oddity.
It's too bad they couldn't get him a computer and an internet connection in
his jail cell, it might allow him to be a productive member of society even
after he's imprisoned.
